Affliction MMA

Affliction is a US based clothing company. Famously, their Red Label Premium collection included the work of six world-renowned tattoo artists, which gives a good guide to the sort of edgy, distinct, and stylish "skulls and daggers" designs which have made their whole range so popular.

There have long been connections between Affliction and the world of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). The logos of top ranked fighters such as Georges St. Pierre, Randy Couture, and Quinton Jackson are blazoned across many Affliction shirts. In turn, the shirts themselves are draped across many of the fighters, as Affliction sponsorship wends its way into the fighters' bank accounts.

Tough, trendy, and with huge pop-culture appeal, Affliction clothes are also worn by championship level boxers and superstars of both the WWE and TNA.

Rumors circulated in early 2008 that Affliction wanted to set up their own MMA promotion company - something to rival the likes of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) complete with signed fighters, a unique set of rules, and exhibitions of major events.

On hearing this, the UFC prohibited its fighters from wearing Affliction clothing at UFC events.

Not long after that, all rumors were verified. On July 19 2008 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, Affliction and The Trump Organization, in association with Roy Englebrecht Events entered the world of professional MMA with a promotion night called, "Affliction Banned."

Champions and former champions clashed throughout the promotion. Nearly every one of the fights on the Affliction Banned card, on any other night, would have easily qualified as a main event.

Banned was an incredible promotion. It left fans talking, raving, and wanting more.

Affliction Entertainment have signed a number of fighters and work non-exclusively with other fighters whose contracts allow it. Affliction's second promotion goes under the byline, 'Day of Reckoning' and will take place on January 24, 2009 at the Honda Center, Anaheim, California. The card features a line-up of top ranked fighters, including former champions, and the main event sees Fedor Emelianenko defending his WAMMA world heavyweight title against former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski.
