Josh Barnett vs Fedor Emelianenko Fight Cancelled

In a strange turn of events for the Affliction MMA promotion, it has been confirmed by Tom Attencio that the main card for the Trilogy event has been compromised. The reason given for Josh Barnett not fighting Fedor Emelianenko is Barnett's failed drug test. Attencio, the Affliction vice president stated that " Josh Barnett has tested positive for an illegal substance and as such will no longer be fighting on the main card". The only conclusion from the aformentioned is that Barnett has more than likely tested positive for steroids.

What was once billed as one of the best heavyweight fights of all time, is no longer taking place. In addition, it has severly undermined the "pulling" power of the event. It would be interesting to see if Affliction decide to go ahead with the event. Attencio when asked the question about whether the Affliction Trilogy event was still going ahead he stated "at this point, yes". However, the crucial factor that will determine the continuation of the planned event will be dependent on whether or not they can find a suitable fighter to replace Barnett to fight Fedor. Many interesting names have been mentioned.

One of the fighters that has been mentioned is Strikeforce heavyweight star, Fabricio Werdum. The other fighter that has been mentioned is Vitor Belfort. The problem with Vitor is that he is a middleweight fighter and such a move would lack legitimacy as he would have to move up two weight classes.

Stay tuned for more updates.
