The Left Cross:
One the more deceptive punches in boxing is the left straight or what is sometimes referred to as the left cross. This punch is deceptive because it is usually seen as a Jab; put has far greater power because of the way this punch is thrown. Even though this punch may sometimes lack knock out power, it can stun the opponents and enable you to follow up with more shots. This punch is usually thrown with the lead hand and is implemented after the right cross. The best way to throw the Left Straight is usually immediately after the Right Cross. The simple reason being that the body is perfectly aligned to maximize the power for throwing this particular shot. When throwing this punch, it is imperative that it is retracted back quickly to maintain your defensive posture. When this punch is thrown, energy is transferred from your right foot to the left, through your left arm and to the target. Body rotation and the quick weight transfer is what gives the Left cross its deceptive power. This punch can be used very effectively in between combinations and against aggressive fighters. |
