The Right Uppercut:
Many leading boxing trainers refer to this punch as the "knock out" shot. The Right Uppercut is unquestionably one of the hardest punches in boxing's repertoire of techniques. This is simply down to simple physics. When this punch is thrown correctly, it allows you to use your entire body to push through the target. All the way from the legs, through the hips and finally the shoulders and hands. This punch has been responsible for majority of the knockouts in boxing. This punch can be aimed at the body or chin. A contact at either place can stop your opponent in his tracks or even knock them out. To throw this punch effectively, one has to dip down like a "mini squat". Then explosively the entire bodyweight is bought upwards with the hand in mid-chest position in to the chin. Most the power of this punch is generated from the legs. The best way to practice this punch is by using a uppercut bag or with a partner using focus mitts. |
