The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Anaconda Choke has grown in popularity in recent years because of its successful usage in mixed martial arts events. In order to execute this technique properly, the fighter in the top position on top threads his arm under the opponent’s neck and through the armpit, and grasps his bicep. The fighter then places pressure from his shoulder to one side of the neck and squeezes the other side so that their own arm squeezes the neck. This usually applies pressure to both sides of the carotid artery. In order to execute this technique effectively, there is a requirement that the fighter roll over the trapped shoulder to increase the pressure.
