Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Kimura

Kimura, more commonly known as kimura lock, is a special technique used in jiu-jitsu. It is a strong grappling method with an act of versatile attack. The word, 'Kimura', got its name from a famous fight between Masahiko kimura and Helio Gracie in 1955 in a judo match in Brazil. Kimura is a tribute to the victory of Kimura himself. The techniques like one arm throw, sweeping throw and arm entanglement made Kimura win the match against Gracie. These techniques have since been called as Kimura Lock or just Kimura in jiu-jitsu and other martial arts

How does one master kimura techniques? In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, kimura lock is most widely used judo technique. Kimura has the potential to be used as a match winner. Some famous kimura techniques to be mastered are Closed guard Kimura, Mount Kimura, North-south position Kimura and Open guard Kimura.

The fight between Masahiko Kimura and Helio Gracie, which lasted for 13 minutes and started Kimura in jiu-jitsu, explain these techniques very well. In the fight, Kimura threw Gracie in a one arm throw (closed guard arm lock) with ippon seoinage (one arm throw), harai goshi (sweeping hip throw) and major sweeping throw. These throwing technique let to the application of the Kimura either in the side-mount of the north south position, dependant on the position attained. Kimura (the fighter) fought with these techniques till Helio became unconscious. Since then Kimura technique has widely been used in Judos and other professional wrestling. One can master the Kimura technique by regular repetition.
