Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Side Mount

In the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu techniques, the side mount is an intermediate position which is taken prior to the mount. In this side mount position numerous submission holds can be applied.

Also in the side mount technique one should be able to remain on top of the opponent while they try to escape by all means. In this side mount position, resting and pushing all the body weight onto the opponent will make it difficult for them to move and hard to breath. If one is at the bottom position one needs to escape quickly, or else the next obvious position the opponent could prove deadly. The simple side mount position is yet another variation of this position; in this position the right knee should be above or next to the opponents hip. This prevents the opponent from sliding and turning underneath. IT is advisable that in this side mount position one's hould extend their leg to force the chest onto the opponent, making it hard for the opponent to move and breathe.

The other variations of the side mount are namely; Side Mount To Mount - Step Over and Knee Drive. In the former type the body is twisted sideways by switching the knees so as to keep the left knee on the opponents hip. In the latter position, the knee drive, if the opponent has the knees up preventing the step over method one has to grab hold of their belt. This is possible by sliding the right knee onto the opponents stomach just above the belt.
