Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Side Mount
The mount is the most common and most devastating position found in the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu techniques. In this technique one has the ability to land with powerful strikes using gravity so as to gain incredible power. In the mount position one has an advantage of joint locks and chokes. It is said by experts that in the mount position one should be able to practice escaping and maintaining the position until it becomes secondary in nature. Moreover it is suggested that in the mount position one should be totally relaxed but aware of the opponent and the techniques that he is using, especially the land strikes, submission holds or escape positions. The most common form of the mount is to simply rest all the weight on to the opponents stomach or chest. This position gives an advantage to counter over the opponent who may attempt chokes, strikes, or other submission holds. This slight variation of mount makes the opponent difficult to breathe. The mount also tires the opponent from trying to escape and ultimately frustrates them. The major advantage of mount is that it gives a good position to rest. In the other variation of mount the arm is wraped round the back of your opponent's neck so as to stop them moving out from underneath. In this mount position if the opponent raises the knees it becomes difficult to escape. In order to escape from such a mount, one has to raise the hips to roll their opponent off. However by wrapping up both legs the person on top can prevent themselves from rolling off.
