Cung Le

Cung Le is a world-class San Shou kick boxer and MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) artist who lives and fights in San Jose in California. Presumably, the best San Shou fighter in America and maybe the world, Cung Le was born in Saigon, Vietnam on 25th May 1972. He escaped Vietnam with his mother before the fall of 1976 under heavy gunfire. After spending many months in a refugee camp in Philippines, they were united with their lost family. With the help of a sponsor, by the September of 1976 Cung Le's family had settled in San Jose, California. Rising above a difficult childhood and an awkward teenage, Cung Le fought against all odds and  his hard work and determination combined with his incredible talent, he is  the legend that he is today. Cung Le's name is synonymous with San Shou Kung Fu and his popularity has catapulted him into the big league. This latest Strikeforce Middleweight Champion and three-times martial arts world champion tag has made him a  name to reckon with

Cung Le's career in kickboxing and MMA has been legendary. Never been defeated in his super-successful San Shou career (17-0-0), Cung Le had the privilege of winning the bronze medals thrice as an amateur in the San Shou World Championship. Le has also had the honor of captaining the United States teams for the World Championships at Wushu, thrice. In 1997 and 1999, the world-champ was made the team captain of United States at the World MA Championships. In one of the most significant turns in his life, Le was declared as the undisputed winner in a fight in his hometown with Shonie Carter that led to his winning the IKF San Shou World Title. The year 2003 marked Cung Le's entry into K-1competitions where he got a serious head start by acquiring a 3-0 record which also included a knockout.

Cung Le's MMA debut was highly anticipated by fans and critics alike. Proving his mettle yet again, he knocked out Mike Altman in the first round and after three months even Brian Warren, a veteran at the KOTC, bit the dust. On 8th December, 2006, Cung won against Jason Von Flue at Strikeforce: Triple Threat and two years later, audiences watched with bated breath as he defeated archrival Frank Shamrock.

Le has been seen on posters and covers of almost every single martial arts magazine on the planet including Black Belt Magazine, Martial Arts Illustrated and ESPN-The Magazine. He has featured on television before and is getting ready for the release of his first ever movie, Blizhniy Boy: The Ultimate Fighter, co-starring Eric Roberts and David Carradine.

Shy, reserved and down-to-earth with rugged good looks, Mr. Le is currently single. This dedicated father of two loves playing video games and going fishing with his boys. His varied interests in life include movies, sports, MMA, BJJ, San Shou, food competition, teaching and coaching, nutrition, health and fitness. Although he loves spending time with his family, Le also enjoys training fighters and students. He has made champions out of numerous students and his UsH team has been winning laurels all along. His favorite quotation is "USH!" which means "Unlimited Strength and Honor".

If soccer has David Beckham, Basketball has Michael Jordan and golf has Tiger Woods, then it would not be an understatement to say that Martial Arts has Cung Le. He is one of the few fighters whose fights actually look like performances. At a time when his contemporaries are getting hit by his famous spinning back kicks, Cung continues to silence critics by expanding his skill set by undergoing training in other arts like Jujitsu. Demonstrating superlative skills and practicing unrelenting work ethics makes him an inspiration and hero for many.
