Denis Kang

Born on September 17, 1977 in Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, Denis Kang's record in MMA fighting has been very impressive.  Nicknamed Super Korean by his fellow fighters in Korea, Denis specializes in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Boxing.  Weighing 183 lbs and 5'11" , Denis has shocked many of his opponents by his perseverance and his ability to take blows on his body for a win.

Marcus Soares is responsible for training Denis in the Jiu Jitsu technique.  Currently, Denis holds a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and is known for his explosive nature of fighting.

Denis has a record of 26 Wins and 8 losses in MMA fighting.  Most of his victories have come by the effective utilization of submissions and strikes.  Denis started fighting in Canada and later migrated to Korea to spend time with his father.  He did quite a bit of fighting after being signed by the Spirit MC (An MMA organization in South Korea).

Denis started his fighting career in 1998 by participating in the Ultimate Warrior Challenge in Vancouver, Canada. His debut fight was against Eric Harcrow.  After spending the initial rounds scuffling, Kang nailed Eric with a Rear Naked Choke Submission.

This was a dream debut for Denis that surprised many people.  People well surprised over the fact that Denis could use Rear Naked Choke in his first ever fight game.  The Rear Naked Choke is considered to be a tough technique and a lot of fighters spend a lot of time in MMA to learn this technique.

This dream debut could just not be translated to good results for Denis as his fighting career started to go up and down.  14 fights later, Denis had an appalling record of 7 Wins and 7 Losses.  Clearly, this dismal record did not impress Denis that forced him to concentrate all his energies on Mixed Martial Arts.

A move to Korea to spend time with his father saw Denis winning 5 games at a stretch.  This enabled Denis to have a firm fighting footing in Korea from where he could launch an assault on some of the premier MMA championships.

Kang made his PRIDE Debut at Bushido 6.  His first PRIDE opponent was Japanese fighter, Takahiro Oba.  He did not waste much of a time disposing off with Oba's challenge with the help of an armbar submission.  Bushido 10 was successful for Kang as well as he was able to defeat Mark Weir, a strong Englishman.

Bushido 11 saw one of the smallest fights in the history of PRIDE.  Kang knocked his opponent Albert Basconcelles out of contention within 12 seconds of the opening bell.  This winning form continued with a knockout of Murilo Rua in less than 15 seconds.  The rear naked choke was used to a good effect by Kang in Bushido 12 where Kang defeated stiff resistance from Amar Suloev.

Kang's juggernaut was stopped finally by Kazuo Misaki in Bushido 13.  The loss of Kang is attributed to a lot of factors.  One of the most important being the injury to Kang's forearm that he sustained in his earlier night duel with Akihiro Gono.

Denis Kang's overall record of 26-8 with 15 submissions and two victories in less than 15 seconds speaks a lot about Denis' overall fighting strength.
