Diego Sanchez
Diego Sanchez, a middle weight fighter, burst on to the scene in the initial edition of the reality fight show called the ultimate fighter. He ended winning the competition and in turn was able to grab an opportunity with UFC. This 5 feet 11 inch fighter is often known to cause nightmares to his opponents and hence gaining him the nickname "The Nightmare". A practitioner of mixed martial arts has his formal training as a wrestler and also has been a disciple of an art of martial arts called Giadojutsu. This form deals with moves for getting the opponent submit, a special form that is created by Greg Jackson. Not surprisingly Greg has also been Diego's instructor since a long time. In very early stages of his career with UFC, he shifted to the welterweight division. Diego Sanchez had a head start to his career starting off with back to back victories. After getting better of Kenny Florian in the finals of the Ultimate Fighter later that year Sanchez got himself in his first official UFC fight against Brian Gassaway, which made it a debut victory for Sanchez. From this day in August 2005 to December 13 2006 Sanchez fought 5 fights and on all occasions he ended on the winning side. His career was on an all time high and at that point of time he was among the best fighters the sport had, if not the best. But that is when life took a big turn, Diego was accused of using a banned drug and on testing it was revealed by the authorities that he had been consuming Marijuana. This incident led to Sanchez being suspended for a period of three months and not only was this fatal for his career but also proved to be a big black spot on the young fighter's name. After the completion of his suspension period Sanchez made a comeback to the UFC arena and he was pitted against one of the best in the business, Josh Koscheck. This was one of the best encounters that year had produced and it ended handing over Sanchez his first defeat, the fight was not that fast paced none of the fighters were able to get their opponents grounded. The expected aggressive moves from Sanchez were also lacking and his shots and strikes also seemed to be less powerful and he was greeted with rapid punches and swift moves by Koscheck. This was explained several days post the fight when it was revealed that Sanchez before the bout was under medical observation as he had been thought to have been sick. The following day, that is post the fight, he was admitted with a Staph infection. After the first defeat, Deigo was marked to comeback strong against Jon Fitch and in a very tightly contested bout Sanchez suffered a double blow as he ended on the loosing side after a very close call made by the referees. These have been the only 2 defeats of not only his UFC career but also his MMA career which has a total of 17 fights. All said and done he has age on his side and is bound to make it really big in this sport. |
