Forrest Griffin
Forrest Griffin was born in the United States of America in Columbus, Ohio on November 26th 1978. Forrest in his early years was a University student and graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Political Science. After graduating he worked for a short time as a law enforcement officer where he first started to take part in martial arts. During his time here he was training under Adam and Rory Singer in BJJ and Boxing at the Hard Core Gym in Athens, Georgia. Later Forrest retired from law enforcement, and started to take a full time interest in MMA. In a span of a few years, he had accumulated a 6 and 0 MMA record by 2001. In the year of 2005, Forrest Griffin took part in Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) reality show. Here the fighters had to live together and fight each other. The loser had to go home and the winner was awarded a six figure UFC contract. Forrest went on not only to win the show, but also put on one of the most exiting fights in UFC history. In addition to the latter, recent polls on various websites have confirmed that the final between Stephan Bonnar and Forrest Griffin was one of the most exiting fight's ever in MMA history. With Griffin's win The UFC awarded him with a multi fight contract over a three year period. Forrest had a varied amount of success with him winning his first few fights against Bill Mahood and Elvis Sinosic in December 2005. In 2006, he fought Stephan Bonnar in a re-match which he won again. He lost a close decision against Tito Ortiz and lost a fight against Keith Jardine. After 2 consecutive losses, Forrest would come back and win the two biggest fights of his career. His won against what many regarded as the best light-heavyweight fighter in the world, Mauricio Rua. He dominated Rua and submitted him in the final round. This was the turning point I Forrest Griffin's career. On July 5th 2008 Forrest Griffin was give the chance to face Quinton Jackson for the light-heavyweight title. Despite being a heavy underdog, Forrest Griffin won a grueling five round fight to become the new Light-heavyweight champion. All in all Forrest Griffin is a very likable character and fighter. He displays great skill and great heart. What is synonymous with Forrest is his "never give up" attitude. Only time will tell if he can defend his title multiple times. |
