Jake Shields, a pure vegetarian which he has been maintaining till date, used to enjoy getting involved in all outdoor activities especially if they required strength, skill and determination. A naturally gifted boy got an inclination towards wrestling very early in his life as it was one of the sports that he often played with his friends and brothers. His career took an early shape when he started as an amateur wrestler when he was below 10 tears of age. This naturally gifted boy started winning event in which he participated, his achievements listed right from national championship to Pan American games championship. As a mixed martial arts professional he excelled in wrestling and the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Famous for his great technique and unbelievable energy Shields has faced the best in the business moreover more often than not he is a dreaded under dog. He has been regularly featuring in the list of the best fighters in his division. His first match as a mixed martial arts pro was in the 1999 when he took on the Paul Harrison, the underlying fact for that match was that Shields was not supposed to be a part of it but he was a replacement for an injured teammate. But proving his potential he went on to win the match via knock out and this made the people notice him. He again stood up victorious in his second career match later that year when he defeated Brian Warren. Both these victories made Shields feel as if he was a part of the top league. But unfortunately his happiness was short lived, when he had thought of making three in a row he was beaten by Marty Armendarez that too via knock out and this did have an impact on his career. His come back in the next match was short lived as he went on to lose once more after a victory. Shields once famously quoted that he enjoyed being an underdog as he did not have the pressure on him as no one expected him to. There on he proved his metal by scoring 19 victories with just a couple of defeats and a draw. Shields from being just an underdog went on to be the favorite for the fights. Jake has managed to earn a reputation for his style of fighting and an authority on the sport, in the past eight years, at 28 years he has a few more years left in him. He has defeated the best in the business and has proven a point to everyone. The only thing that is required is a bit more consistency so that from being one of the best he can translate himself into the best fighter of the welter weight division. It is aptly said for him that at times his strikes and blows are as killing as are his killing boyish looks. |
