Karate In MMA

Growing up we've all heard tales of enormous Roman gladiators combating until the death.  All these warriors were trained fighters, in various disciplines, and talented gifted athletes. The thing that separated them from all others was the bravery and a need of regard for their own safety exhibit by these fighters. They privileged having the chance to fight for and entertain the fans and they had the highest respect for the other combatants. You may ask yourself what this has to do with the MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) or any martial art for this matter. If you take away the fighting until death feature you will see that fighters of MMA display many of the character of these long-ago warriors. You might even say they are our current day gladiators!

So, what is MMA? First of all it stands for Mixed Martial Arts and it is a comparatively new antagonistic sport that combines boxing, wrestling, karate, Jiu-jitsu and pretty much any other Martial art you can think of. Some of the events are held in a cage while others go the conventional combative sport route and use a ring. A competition pits two competitors against each other usually for 2-3 five minute rounds. A fighter is then allowed to use strikes consisting of kicks, punches, and elbows and is allowed to wrestle with their challenger both while standing and while the two are on the ground. A fighter can win a match by either knocking their challenger unconscious, applying a submission hold and having their challenger submit or by going the distance and having the judges make a decision upon the outcome.

The literal meaning of Karate means "empty hands". The art of Karate was developed from three sources - the classical Japanese martial arts, indigenous fighting methods used in Ryukyu Islands and Chinese Kempo. Karate allows the practitioners to use striking and kicking in a bid to win the contests. The Karate fighters only rely on the successful use of their unarmed body for the moves used during the fights. Overall, Karate consists techniques of blocking attacks from the challenger and counter-attacking by punching, kicking and striking. There are three types of competition in the field of Karate. These are "sparring", "forms" and "weapons forms". Participants are allowed to enter into a tournament as individuals or as a team. Evaluation of sparring and forms is done by a panel of judges where else, sparring is evaluated by a head referee along with an assistant referees. here are five types of styles in Karate. These are Goju-ryu Karate, Shotokan Karate, Wado-ryu Karate, Shito-ryu Karate and Kenpo Karate. Goju means hard-soft and Ryu means school; therefore, the literal translation of Goju-ryu karate is "the hard/soft school of Karate". It is one of the four original Okinawan styles of Karate that was founded by Chojun Miyagi.

Mixed Martial Arts, is becoming the best ever growing combat sport in the world with many representatives from every continent. When you realize and compare that just 5 years ago there weren't many mixed martial artists winning home more then ten thousand dollars a fight and now some of these same fighters earning 250 to 500 thousand dollars a fight it absolutely shows how far this sport has move towards.
