Matt Lindland

Video Coming Soon!

Matt Lindland, nicknamed "The Law" was born on May 17, 1970 in Oregon city.  This stocky fighter weighs 185 lbs and stands 6'0" tall. He masters the Greco-Roman style of wrestling.  Mark is at the top of rankings in Middleweight Mixed Martial Arts fighting.

Lindland took to the Greco-Roman style of wrestling from the age of 15. In the 2000 Summer Olympics, he also won a silver medal in the 69-76 Kilograms.  This was a controversial competition for Lindland when he fought Keith Sieracki.  Matt was accused of tripping him in the finals.  As per Keith, Matt was not allowed to do this under the rules of Greco-Roman wrestling.

This silver medal laid a foundation for Matt to enter the Mixed Martial Arts fighting domain.  Dan Henderson, Randy Couture and other big names at TeamQuest helped him build a Clinch and Pound and Ground and Pound style.  These big names felt that Matt could compete in the MMA arena only if he mastered these styles.

He made his UFC Debut at UFC 29 where his debut UFC match was against Yoji Anjo.  Winning this fight in less than 3 minutes gave enough confidence to Matt to fight in future matches as well.  He maintained a 4-0 record till he ran into an in-form Murilo Bustamante at the UFC 37 - High Impact.  Murilo employed the Guillotine Choke to defuse the challenge posed by Matt and won the fight within 2 minutes.

Matt maintained his winning streak till he met Falaniko Vitale at UFC 43.  In the game, Matt tried to slam Falaniko only to fall on his back and lost the match with the TKO slam going in Falaniko's favor.  Six months later at UFC 45, Matt returned the favors to Falaniko by winning his match through Submission strikes.

He has fought professionally in IFL and BODOG fights and maintained a very healthy record  with five wins and two losses.  The two losses have come against opponents outside his weight class.  One of them was Quinton Jackson and the other was against PRIDE Heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko.   His loss to Jackson prompted him to join the International Fight League.  Matt made his debut as a coach in the IFL. One of his matches in the IFL was against Jeremy Horn.  Matt used the TKO strikes to a good effect to defeat Jeremy in this fight.  He also went on to beat Carlos Newton in IFL Houston.

Matt's professional MMA record stands at 20 wins and 5 losses.  8 submission and 6 knockout victories are good indicators that Matt does not fight defensively as believed by the critics.  His last fight was against Fedor Emelianenko at the BoDogFight - Clash of the Nations.  Matt was defeated by Fedor in less than 3 minutes with the help of armbar submission.

His past MMA record testifies critics' statement that Matt is one of the best fighters at his weight.  With most of his losses coming from opponents outside his weightclass, they are not wrong in saying so.
