MUAY THAI CLINCH

The single most recognisable trait of Muay Thai Boxing and one of the most effective techniques is the Thai Clinch. It has been argued by many that in Muay Thai boxing the clinch is an art in itself. Usually, some martial artists think of the clinch as being the similar to that of western boxing and as such assume that the clinch is used simply to tie up your opponent to stop further strikes. However this could not be further from the truth as from the Muay Thai Boxing Clinch there are numerous attacks that can be instigated which can end the fight. The main ones being Muay Thai elbows and knees.

Moreover in Muay Thai Boxing the clinch can be a place if you have the technical know how you are able to take a breather and recuperate. In addition, the clinch can be a place where the fight can be quickly finished by your opponent if you lack the technical skill.

It can be argued that the most effective weapon in the Muay Thai Boxing techniques is undoubtedly the most under trained in the West. It is the last technique (or collection of techniques) that Muay Thai teachers think to teach their students. This is quite remarkable in relation to the fact that clinch training is what Muay Thai Boxing fighters in Thailand spend majority of their time working the Clinch.

When an opponent is in the Muay Thai Clinch one can also attack your opponent with powerful punches, accurate elbows, and especially damaging knees. The fighter can also trip or throw the opponent ground. The Clinch also has the effect of tiring the opposition as well as demoralizing them.

All in all the Muay Thai Clinch is a compulsory part of Muay Thai. So much so that one can quite easily argue that it could also be the most important aspect of this devastating art.
