Muay Thai Kick


One of the most recognisable techniques in Muay Thai Boxing is the kicking techniques. Kicks in Muay Thai Boxing are considered the single most important techniques incorporated in the arsenal of fighters. These kicks are considered amongst the most powerful compared to other martial arts.

The Thai Boxing kicking techniques is one of the important techniques in Thai Boxing because these kicks are violent and powerful weapons. Muay Thai kicks commonly are implemented in fights; this is mainly due the power generated and the ability of single kick to end the fight suddenly. Unlike other martial arts such as Karate or Taekwondo, where the instep is utilized the Muay Thai Kick use the shin as the striking surface.

There are numerous kicks in Muay Thai Boxing; however there are two main kicks which are utilised by fighters.

Muay Thai Roundhouse Kick:  This kick is a "bread and butter" technique of Muay Thai Boxing and its effectiveness is demonstrated by other martial arts adopting this into their techniques. This technique is easy to control and balance can be maintained through out the execution.

The correct implementation of this technique requires that the fighter must bend his legs a little and sink the kick to the area around the knee-joint or the back of the knee joint. In order to generate more power the need of the kicking leg should be ahead of the shin and target. This is to ensure maximum power out-put. Once implemented the hands should be bought up to protect your face. This kick can also be aimed at the body and the head in a similar manner.

Muay Thai Front Kick:  Often referred to as the "foot jab" this kick is mainly a defensive technique utilised to prevent being hit and to keep the distance between you and the opponent. This technique is fairly simple to do. In order to use this technique you just have to bend the knee joint and then thrust the foot out quickly to attack the target. The target could be the solar plexus, face or even the chest.

All in all Muay Thai Boxing has some of the most effective techniques when it comes to kicking. In order to be proficient at the execution of these techniques regular training and understanding of body mechanics is essential.
