Muay Thai Knee
There are only a select few knee strike techniques which are outlined as follows: The Flying Knee: This is executes when the Muay Thai boxing practioner jumps up strikes with that knee. This is considered one of the deadliest techniques as it involves the force of the full body to be concentrated in a small area. Straight Knee Strike: the Muay Thai practioner thrusts his knee forward into the other fighter using his hips and legs as leverage. This knee is used commonly in the clinch. Roundhouse Knee: This is also normally executed in the clinch but unlike the one aforementioned, the knee is bought around to the outside of the body and the practioner strikes around mainly targeting the rib area. Short Knee Strike: The Muay Thai practioner hits the inside upper thigh (above the knee) of the opponent when in the clinch position. This technique is implemented to breakdown down the opponent or to be used as a counter to the opposition's knee strike or kick. In summation, it can be suggested that in order to be proficient at Muay Thai boxing one has to master the knee strike techniques as they form the foundation of this art. In order to increase the effectiveness of the Muay Thai knee, one should practice throwing the knee strikes against pads mainly the punch bag and the belly pad. Ensuring that the knee strike is pushed in the opponent rather than upwards is the key to executing this technique successfully.
