Quinton "Rampage" Jackson
Quinton Jackson, nicknamed Rampage was born on June 20, 1978 in Memphis, Tennessee. He weighs 205 lbs and stands 6' 1" tall. He masters Wrestling, Boxing and Muay Thai that has allowed him to win many matches in the ring. Physically, Mauricio is conservatively built that allows him to be flexible with his kicks and hits. He started his Mixed Martial Arts fighting career in 1999 when he faced Mike Pyle in an ICSF Face off. He had an awesome record of 10 wins and 1 loss in other formats of professional fighting championships. His only loss came against Marvin Eastman in the KOTC 4 held in June, 2000 where he lost through a unanimous decision. One of the favorite victory shots that he learnt from this time was submission. He specializes in the Armbar and other forms of submission. His PRIDE Career has never really been a shining one. Though, he has a record of 18 wins and 5 losses, Quinton is known to win the critical matches and that has allowed him to deliver the knockout punches whenever it was getting really tough. He has managed to keep a tight leash on Chuck Liddell establishing a 2-0 record over him. He has won his fights against Chuck in 2003 and May 2007. At the same time, he has not been able to break open the defenses and counter attack of Wanderlei Silva and Mauricio Rua. He has lost two matches against Silva and one against Rua. Mauricio handed him the defeat due to his prowess in aerial fighting, something that Quinton does not use quite often. He made his UFC debut in March 2007. The debut match against Mark Eastman was won by Quinton that put him on course for a face-off against Chuck Liddell. Consecutive strikes by Quinton on Liddell allowed him to floor Chuck and this handed him over the UFC Light Heavy Weight Championship title. He successfully defended the Light Heavy Weight title with a victory over Dan Henderson. One of his tragic matches was against Mauricio Rua in the Middleweight Grand Prix Championship. This fight was evenly contested till the time Rua broke Jackson's ribs early. This gave him an unfair advantage in the game and went on to win it. People who saw the fight say that Jackson could barely move his hands but yet fought till the last second. Quinton Jackson after his recent victory against Dan Henderson seems to be the favorite to retain his UFC Lightweight title. |
