Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou
Weighing 205 lbs and standing 6'0" tall, Rameu Theirry is also known as "The African Assassin" to fellow fighters in the PRIDE circles. He was born on 18th April, 1984 in Cameroon. Rameu is one of the latest entrants to MMA fighting scene. He made his debut against Gary Padila in the Total Combat TC 15 in July 2006. The light weight overcame the bulky Gary in a tremendous exhibition of Judo and Muay Thai. Rameu had won the US Open Judo Championships in 2001. Currently, he does his training as a kickboxing and MMA instructor with Team Quest. He is known to have a dojo in Mira Mersa and is actively involved in promoting education and sports amongst school students. Rameu being very new to the PRIDE and MMA fighting arena does not have a very illustrious record to boast about. In this short time though, Rameu has done enough to instill fear in his opponents mind. When Rameu made his debut in PRIDE 33 against Antonio Rogerio (The well known Heavyweight champion), spectators thought this would be a walk over for Antonio. Rameu proved all of them wrong by knocking out Antonio in a mere 23 seconds after the fight began. This victory against Antonio went a long way in Rameu earning his nickname "The Silent Assassin". His next match up was against the fancied Ricardo Arouna in PRIDE 34 - Kamikaze. Much against everyone's expectations, Rameu delivered the knockout punches to Ricardo handling him a humiliating defeat. Rameu's only defeat has come at the hands of Glover Teixiera in WEC24 held in October, 2006. This fight lasted for about a minute and 41 seconds and the overall raw power of Glover saw Rameu tasting defeat for the first time in his MMA fighting career. Rameu has a 4 -1 Win Loss record that may not give goose bumps to any MMA fighting spectator or a fighter. Just the fact that he has been able to beat top fighters at their own game in record times allows him to be a complete underdog to claim the PRIDE Lightweight Championship this season. Antonio Rogerio and Ricardo are very tough opponents and have a towering presence. Rameu registering victories over such fancied opponents is a credit to his expertise in Judo and Muay Thai. This season will be a true testimony to the fact of Rameu being a good fighter. As he gets older in the PRIDE and other MMA fighting arenas, opponents will surely try to find chinks in his armory and utilize them to good effect. The fact that Rameu weighs 205 lbs snatches away the weight disadvantage to a certain extent. It will be interesting to see how Rameu fares against 250 pounder opponents. Surely, those games will see Rameu changing strategies. In his fights, Rameu uses his head very well to understand the strengths and weaknesses of his opponents and adapting his style accordingly. This is a big plus point for Rameu as he would be able to analyze his opponent even before the fight begins, and once it does all he needs to do is to implement his strategies. |
