It has been argued by many fighters in the mixed martial arts game that takedowns from BJJ are difficult to counter especially for someone who has not trained before. Once the fight gets taken to the ground their are hundreds of maneuvers that can be used to end the fight by applying a submission hold. In addition to the latter attaining a superior position on the ground is one of the identifying features of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu , and includes effective use of the "Guard" to defend oneself from bottom, and passing the guard to dominate from top position cross-body, mount, and rear mount positions. Submission wrestling: The term Submission Wrestling is a generally used to explain an aspect of a martial arts which focuses on Ground Fighting with the end goal of submitting the opposition. This can be done through various chokes and locks. The art of Submission Wrestling is a amalgamation of various styles which include Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, Sambo and many other styles such as Judo. Submission grappling as it is also referred to an element in a larger sport setting is popular in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Pankration, and other Shoot-fighting styles. With the growth of the mixed martial arts (MMA) the terminology incorporated "Submission Wrestling" is usually used to refer to styles of grappling as a collective rather than put emphasis on a individual style. The terminology Submission Fighting is sometimes stated to explain the tactics in MMA competition which is mainly based around using submission wrestling skills to beat the opposition. Catch Wrestling: The early history of Catch Wrestling relates its origins to the early 19th Century in the United States of America. Catch Wrestling can be considered to be a comprehensive style that has evolved and transitioned over the years. This is mainly because of the various influences from all over the world from other wrestling styles thus bringing together influences from the various ethnic groups who immigrated to America for economic reasons. Catch Wrestling is a made up of various influences. The initial influence was with the emergence of Irish collar and elbow wrestling which was bought to the US in the early 19th Century. This was combined with three other styles introduced by the British which included Cornish-Devonshire wrestling, Cumberland-Westmoreland Wrestling and Lancashire Catch-As-Catch-Can. This techniques were also mixed with other influences from the Middle-East and involved wrestling disciplines such as Arab Leg Wrestling. This new style used various techniques to beat their opponents which included submissions, takedowns, pins and various throws. It has been argued by some that this has lead to the emergence of professional wrestling in North America. |
