Tito Ortiz Vs UFC and Lyoto Machida Tito Ortiz, who is going to fight in UFC 84 against Lyoto Machida, has made it clear that this will be he last fight for this promotion. Tito Ortiz who has been one of the UFC's biggest stars for over ten years has stated that due to "lack of Respect" he has decided that he is going to leave and seek other possible promotions. Tito Ortiz, who is a former UFC Light Heavy Weight champion has been with the UFC for over ten years. Some MMA experts claim that UFC growth in the Pay per View (PPV) maket has been largely due to Ortiz's ability to sell fights. This is evident as two of the biggest UFC PPV events have had Tito Ortiz as they headline star. In addition to Ortizs ability to attract huge PPV revenue, he also has an outstanding MMA Record. His only two losses comming from MMA legends such as Chuck Liddell and Randy Couture. However what must be remembered is that even though this his final fight in the UFC, it is both very important both for Ortiz and the UFC. The reason being, if Ortiz wins, he is likely to become the huge draw he was a few years ago and put him back in the top five light heavy weights. An Ortiz win would likely result in a positive transion to another organization where he may take his huge fan base with him. This can hurt the UFC and they know that. .If Ortiz wins, he leaves MMA's biggest promotion on a positive note, and becomes higher valued commodity to other mm promotions. If he loses, he walks away from the UFC with a damaged image. What stands between Ortiz's success and UFC loss is Lyoto Machida, who in many people eyes, is one of the best fighters in the division. The importance of this fight for the UFC is reflected in the following statement by Dana White: "I don't win or lose fights for anybody. I sit there, and I watch, and I see what happens, and we go from there. So never at any time am I sitting there hoping this guy loses, but I can tell you what, I never wanted to see somebody get their ass kicked worse than I want to see Tito get his ass kicked on Saturday night." Get ready for fireworks on 24th of May at UFC 84. |
