GSP Vs Jon Fitch - UFC 87

One of the most anticipated match-ups for the year 2008 is clash between the number one contender for the welterweight division Jon Fitch against the champion Georges St Pierre. The fight is to place on the main event for UFC 87. This fight will be Georges ST Pierre first defense of the welterweight title since winning it in a rematch with Matt Serra at UFC 83.

Stylistically, this is a very exiting fight as both Fitch and GSP have a well rounded MMA game. Jon Fitch will be placing his record 17-2 record on the line at UFC 87, when he fights one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world. Fitch who has had eight consecutive wins in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is considered by many to be one of the best fighters in the world. He like GSP has a good striking game, good wrestling and great Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Jon Fitch's recent wins includes victories over Thiago Alves and Diego Sanchez.

Also on this card there will be a match up between two up and coming heavyweights in the UFC Division. Heath Herring will be taking on the former WWE star Brock Lesnar.  This fight is a very interesting as both fighters will be looking to climb up the ladder and get a possible title shot. Herring being more the more experienced MMA fighter is the favorite. However some believe that Brock Lesnar's strong wrestling background could give Heath Herring trouble.

One of the most important fights for the light weight title is also taking place on the UFC 87 card. Roger Huerta will be taking on Kenny "Kenflo" Florian for a possible title shot against BJ Penn. Both fighters have a complete MMA game with great striking and grappling skills. This fight is predicted to be the fight of the night. According to the odd makers, Kenny Florian is the slight favorite.

‘The fights on the card include Chris Wilson against Steve Bruno, and an all-Ultimate Fighter clash between Ben Saunders and Jared Rollins.

Overall this is a very interesting UFC event with some great fights. This event is likely to shake up the UFC rankings and any upsets will have a huge effect on future match ups.
